Foggy Thinking

Post image for Happy Calm Focused: A New Product I Think I’m Going to Love!

I was contacted recently by the makers of a brain supplement called “Happy • Calm • Focused” also known as HCF.  They asked me if they could send a free bottle for me to try in return for giving an honest Amazon review.

I receive more free products than you can imagine.  I am contacted nearly every day with offers to try this product, that product, or this supplement or that supplement.  And I’m certain that you ladies know what I mean.  Perimenopausal women are the demographic du jour when it comes to hawking products to relieve us of our hormonal misery.

Most of the time I turn people down.  Because I take bioidentical progesterone and the occasional bioidentical estrogen, I just don’t like to monkey around with this product or that product.  Plus, I’m not too keen on loading up on pills and supplements when I think food is a much better alternative to deficiency.

But, for reasons that I cannot really explain, I agreed to receive the product and give it a try.

The first thing I liked about the product is that it is all natural.  It is a non-GMO product which is gluten free, preservative free, fragrance free, with no chemicals, chemical coatings, yeast, dairy, nuts or wheat.

So what’s in it then?

  • A special proprietary Amino Acid blend of DL-Phenylalanine and L-Glutamine
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamine E
  • Vitamin B1, B2, B3, & B6
  • Folic Acid
  • Vitamin B12
  • Biotin
  • Vitamin B5
  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Chromium

I’m going to be completely honest and tell you that I was interested in it because I struggle like crazy with brain fog and short-term memory issues.  I also struggle with HIGH ANXIETY due almost entirely to stress from graduate school and a never ending battle with a jerk-off ex-husband (he’s sooooooooo charming).

Lately I’ve also been having a tough time with waking up inn the middle of the night and just not sleeping well, though I take 200 mgs nightly of bioidentical progesterone for sleep (and it does help).  I am convinced it is because of my stress level.  But, regardless of the source, I need some relief.  So, all things considered I decided to give it a try.

The directions say to take it on an empty stomach with a glass of water before breakfast for maximum absorption.  So, I did.  Approximately 15 to 20 minutes later I noticed a remarkable difference in how I felt – like GOOD.

I felt more alert and clear minded immediately.  Now, this is just the first day, I know.  So, I’m certain I’ll have more to say about the product after I use it for about a month.  I have a 90-day supply, so I should be able to tell if this is really working and helping me or not.

However, because I felt so good immediately, I wanted to tell you guys about it now.  You can check out their website here   where you can purchase the product from them, or plug in your zip code to locate a store near you.  There are none in my neck of the woods. Which is fine with me, because I prefer online shopping and you can also buy here at Amazon as well.    Yea for me.

neurotransmitter

Like I said, I realize that using a product for one day is not sufficient time to make a final judgement and give a good review. So, I’ll write up another review after I’ve used it for 30-days.

So far, the thing that I like about it the most is that it’s non-GMO, and that it’s full of healthy vitamins, minerals, and neurotransmitters, and with my shift toward “Food as Medicine” in treating perimenopause symptoms, I’m definitely all about finding non-drug solutions to perimenopause symptoms.  So, this might be an excellent product for me to recommend.

If you’re interested in giving it a try before I do my final review, you can go here to their website or you can go here to Amazon. There are also lots of great reviews there too.

I’ll keep ya’ll posted!

Estrogen, Uterine Polyps & Me

I’ve been fully menopausal for nearly 4 years now.  I’ve shared with you all in that past, that during my own perimenopause years – those years prior to my becoming menopausal –  I did not use any kind of hormones.  Looking back, frankly, it is a decision I regret. I’ve learned a lot since then about bioidentical […]

Dear Magnolia…..About That Vertigo & Dizziness in Perimenopause

Thumbnail image for Dear Magnolia…..About That Vertigo & Dizziness in Perimenopause

It’s time for another “Dear Magnolia” installment.  I picked a comment by a reader by the name of “Michelle” for this post. Michelle has been having trouble with vertigo and dizziness in perimenopause, along with balance issues, brain fog, and feeling spaced out.  She said she also suffers with migraines and wacky periods. Typical perimenopause […]

Symptoms of Perimenopause Symptoms of Menopause

I thought it would be appropriate – and helpful – to follow up on a recent post I did on the difference between perimenopause and menopause and provide a list of the symptoms associated with each. Though the terms are often (and I’m guilty of the same) used interchangeably, they are not the same thing. Perimenopause is a transitional […]

Hypothyroidism, Health & Happiness: The Riddle of Illness Revealed

Thumbnail image for Hypothyroidism, Health & Happiness: The Riddle of Illness Revealed

It’s been hard for me to move away from this topic. Primarily because physicians like Dr. Hotze, and other healthcare providers, whom I respect, continue to address it. But, also because I think they are shining a necessary light on the issue of faulty testing procedures for hypothyroidism. Of course, the baby-boomer-rebel in me is […]

The Vivelle Dot: My Opinion So Far

Thumbnail image for The Vivelle Dot: My Opinion So Far

I have been using the Vivelle Dot, a transdermal, bioidentical estradiol for approximately one week now, and the verdict is in: I’m feeling better. The first thing I noticed after a couple of days of use, was the lifting of the brain fog.  The dense weight of short-term memory issues has not completely dissipated, but […]

Estrogen Replacement Therapy: Yes or No?

Thumbnail image for Estrogen Replacement Therapy: Yes or No?

Let’s face it.  The average women does not understand the role of estrogen during perimenopause.  But, when the average OB/GYN doesn’t seem to understand it very well either, is it any surprise then that women looking for help for their symptoms of perimenopause are clueless? It also doesn’t help that there is a big, wide […]

Wait……What was I saying?

Oh dear, it’s happened again! Occasionally, whilst talking to colleagues or friends/family my mind suddenly goes blank, it’s like someone pulling the plug and then there is…. Nothing! Just like a black hole! But, after a deep breath or two I can usually retrace my thoughts and get back on track. (Annoying thing is I […]

Perimenopause: Yes, it’s Real and No, You’re Not Going Crazy!

Thumbnail image for Perimenopause: Yes, it’s Real and No, You’re Not Going Crazy!

Feel better?  I could have used someone telling me that about 10 years ago when I walked right into one of the fiercest hormonal battles of my life. First of all, I had never heard of peri-anything.  Menopause?  Yeah.  I had heard of that.  My mom called it “the change,” and I knew that sooner […]
